Q&A with Dr. Elizabeth Cruz, MD

Q: What made you decide to pursue your specialty?

A: I was first exposed to pediatric neurology during my second year of pediatric residency. During that year, everything crystalized for me and I knew to was my calling to become a child neurologist. Its a joy to work with children and their parents. I decided to specialize in pediatric neurology because I saw how difficult it is for children with special needs and with behavioral and neurological disorders to find providers to care for them. This career provides me with the opportunity to practice something that I'm passionate, every day. And it gives me a sense of purpose because I'm able to help an underserved population.

A: Our team at Stony Brook Neurology is committed to ensure that our patients receive not only excellent care but also the support, kindness and compassion that they need due to the complexity and the physical and emotional demands of the patient with neurological disorders.
