Dr. Ramachandra Naik, MD

Dr. Ramachandra G. Naik, MD, DM, DNB specializes in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, with a focus on type 1 and type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders, obesity, osteoporosis, and thyroid disorders. He practices in Upper East Side in New York, NY, and serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Naik completed his endocrinology training at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India, and the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism.



Dr. Naik has more than three decades of global experience across patient care, clinical research, and biopharmaceutical drug development. He has previously held senior faculty positions at leading academic institutions across the United States. Earlier in his career, he led a nationally renowned tertiary-care endocrinology practice for more than a decade in Mumbai, India, serving a geographically diverse referral population from across India, the Middle East, and East Africa.



Dr. Naik is an internationally recognized expert in type 1 / autoimmune diabetes. His scientific career began with a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he trained under Dr. Jerry Palmer and studied underlying pathophysiology of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) - work that helped define LADA as a distinct clinical entity and continues to shape his approach to diagnosis and treatment today. Dr. Naik has published in the area of autoimmune diabetes and has authored chapters in international textbooks on diabetes (including "Ellenberg & Rifkin's Diabetes Mellitus," 6th ed., and "Therapy for Diabetes Mellitus and Related Disorders," 5th ed., American Diabetes Association).



He has held senior academic leadership roles advancing clinical and translational research, including Assistant Dean and Director of Translational and Clinical Research Programs at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Director of Diabetes Clinical Innovation at the University of Washington Medicine Diabetes Institute, and Director Diabetes Clinical Research at NYU Langone Health. He has served, over the last several years, as a principal investigator on multiple phase 1 through phase 3 studies in type 1 diabetes (diabetes/technology intersection and immune-intervention strategies), novel insulin therapies, incretin-based therapies, and lipid disorders (hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia).



Dr. Naik has also spent 8 years of his career in biopharmaceutical industry (Novartis, Merck and Johnson & Johnson) in roles of progressively increasing responsibility, providing clinical leadership in global drug and device development programs. He currently serves as a Senior Medical Director Clinical Sciences, Global Development at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., working on multiple early development programs, including first-in-human studies in the cardiometabolic/obesity space.
