Q&A with Dr. Keith Breglio, MD

Q: What made you decide to pursue your specialty?

A: Being able to help a sick child feel better is truly amazing. This is a calling I felt early in my medical training, so I knew that I wanted to work in Pediatrics. As a Pediatric Gastroenterologist, I can focus on a specific subset of patients that require specialized care ranging from general nutrition, reflux, constipation as well as various inflammatory conditions of the intestines. These conditions can affect the overall growth and development of a child and by properly treating them, I can play a critical role and have a major impact on their overall health, growth and quality of life. In addition, as many of these conditions are chronic, I am able to build strong relationships with my patients and their parents as they grow through childhood, adolescence and young adulthood.

A: At Stony Brook, you can expect the highest quality, comprehensive care for your child. Gastrointestinal problems are complicated, and continued care goes beyond the office visit. With a dedicated team of seven physicians, three fellows, two nurse practitioners and two registered dietitians, you can rest assured that your child will receive the full benefit of our entire team at any point during the treatment of their gastrointestinal problem. Our team is prepared to offer all possible testing, interpretation, treatment and counseling that your child might need for any condition. We are also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for any gastrointestinal emergencies.
