He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, whose primary interest is in hand and elbow surgery, as well as a secondary interest in trauma care and sports medicine. Dr. Bierbrauer is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Western Orthopedic Association, and Colorado State Medical Society. Prior to working at Cornerstone Orthopedics, Dr. Bierbrauer graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and Chemistry from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. He attended The Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University, where he was a Dean�s Award recipient. After medical school, Dr. Bierbrauer completed his residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital and his fellowship in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute in Louisville, KY. In 2011, he worked at Front Range Orthopedics in Colorado Springs from 2005-2011. Dr. Bierbrauer is an avid and accomplished skier. He grew up ski racing and is a triple threat: alpine skiing, telemark skiing, and snowboarding on the slopes. As the official US Ski Team Physician, he has had the opportunity to travel internationally to France and Canada. He also enjoys mountain and road biking, as well as running marathons. At the Chicago Marathon, he qualified for the Boston Marathon in 2014, and has run ultramarathon trail races, completing the Pikes Peak Marathon four times, and the Dirty 30 in Golden. When Dr. Bierbrauer is not on the mountain, biking or running, he enjoys spending time with his sons and wife, who he met while in Chicago.
