At Osher CCPHP, Dr. Annette Osher believes that a strong doctor-patient relationship is essential to helping a patient achieve optimal wellness. The concierge, personalized, private healthcare model allows patients to build a unique rapport with Dr. Osher. With over 35 years of practice in NYC in both internal medicine and cardiology, Dr. Osher has formed close collegial relationships with physicians across Manhattan in all fields of medicine.
Dr. Osher takes a comprehensive, personal history and exam, which enables her to provide her patients thorough and collaborative care. She received her internal medicine training and cardiology training at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center and Suny Downstate Medical Center. Prior to beginning her medical training at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Dr. Osher participated in medical research at Yale University Medical School and The University of Pennsylvania Medical School.
In 1985, after completing her Cardiology Fellowship, she started a private practice in Manhattan. Initially, Dr. Osher had a faculty appointment at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. At that time, she was also the founder and Principal of the Women’s Medical Practice, P.C. in Lincoln Center. That practice was the first of its kind, specialized in the global healthcare of women. In 1992, Dr. Osher became a faculty member at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and moved her practice to 81st Street off Park Avenue where she remained until 2021.
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Osher was one of a small handful of physicians who responded to the NYS Governor Cuomo’s emergency call for volunteer physicians to work and care for the critically ill. She volunteered at Bellevue Hospital in one of their ICU’s in the spring of 2020. At that time, Bellevue alone housed 457 critically ill patients throughout the hospital. Her experience and that of some of the other incredible volunteers were featured in the New York Times story “In Harm’s Way” August 1, 2020. She received a citation for her outstanding work.
Dr. Osher is also a volunteer physician for performers and attendees at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York Philharmonic, New York Ballet, and Lincoln Center Jazz. This is an honor and a pleasure for Dr. Osher. Along with other Lincoln Center colleagues, Dr. Osher co-authored the cardiac chapter in “The Singer's Guide to Complete Health”, published August 2013.
In 2021, Dr.Osher moved her practice to 1001 Fifth Avenue, directly across from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The office is conducive to private care – with a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, she is able to see just one patient at a time.
Over the years, Dr. Osher has been cited by her patients for her diagnostic skills. Patients have similarly commented on her persistence to get a patient to the right doctor or the best hospital for the required procedure.
Some years ago, she brought a 92-year old patient from Panama to Mount Sinai for a new aortic heart valve. This has added years to his life and he was later able to attend grandchildren’s weddings and great grandchildren’s births! This moment will always remain special to Dr. Osher.
She also fondly remembers a diabetic patient who was vacationing in Pennsylvania. The patient was experiencing chest pain and was brought to a nearby local hospital. The hospital's recommendation was open heart surgery which was a high risk for this patient. In discussion with the patient along with the head of Mount Sinai’s catheterization lab, the choice was made to bring the patient to Mount Sinai and have stents placed in a two-part procedure. The procedure was a success and the patient continues to do very well. Dr. Annette Osher listens and utilizes her eyes, ears, and all resources to find the causes of whatever ails the individual, and does her utmost to make the diagnosis and to solve the problem.
“Each patient is unique and has so much to teach, if we take the time to stop and listen.” - Dr. Annette Osher
