Overview

Dr. Shum has the impressive distinction of being a triple-board certified neurologist. Specifically, she has certifications in Neurology and Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and in Clinical Neurophysiology, also by the ABPN. Dr. Shum has a third certification from the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) in Electrodiagnostic Medicine. From 2015 to 2016, Dr. Shum was the President of the Richmond County Medical Society. The Society, whose members include physicians of major hospitals, medical centers, medical groups and private practices on Staten Island, has been serving the Staten Island community for more than 200 years. Dr. Shum was proud to serve as the 209th president of the organization. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the Chinese American Medical Society. In her office, Dr. Shum has special interests in the areas of headaches, Botox for treatment of dystonia and various movement disorders, epilepsy and neuromuscular diseases. She also enjoys mentoring students interested in the field of medicine. Dr. Shum is a proud mother of three young girls. She currently resides in New York City with her family. When she is not working in the office, she loves to travel, listen to music and spend time with her family and friends. Dr. Shum is fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin and is currently seeing new patients.
