Q&A with Dr. Allison Eliscu, MD

Q: What made you decide to pursue your specialty?

A: I enjoy helping adolescents, young adults and their families navigate the complex physical, psychological and social developmental changes that occur during this time. My goal is to empower young people to make healthy decisions and avoid risk-taking behaviors in order to develop into healthy, self-confident adults.

A: Patients can expect to receive comprehensive primary care for individuals 12-26 years of age (including annual physicals, sports physicals, working papers, management of coughs, colds, illness or injuries) and outpatient consultation management for menstrual concerns, family planning, eating disorders and mild mental health issues. We use a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating with other Stony Brook pediatric specialists and professionals (such as nutritionists and mental health counselors) to provide personalized care for patients. During appointments, we generally meet with the teen/young adult and the parent together and then talk with the teen alone. We understand the need for confidential care yet we strongly encourage and can facilitate open communication between the adolescent and their parents.
