Dr. Vij was born and spent his early years in Brenham, Texas before his family moved to the Houston area. He attended Saint John’s School in Houston and graduated with honors from Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science. After college, he returned to Texas for medical school at Baylor College of Medicine prior to joining the prestigious Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed his residency in dermatology and a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology.
After finishing his training, Dr. Vij joined the professional staff of the Cleveland Clinic, where he practiced for over eight years. During his time in Cleveland, Dr. Vij served as the Director of the Residency Program and the Section Head of Teledermatology. He was obtained the rank of Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Vij’s research focuses on the non-melanoma skin cancers, melanoma, and the applications of new technology to optimize patient care. His work has been published in top-tier research journals and textbooks and has presented research at national and international dermatology meetings. He has served on the Corporate Relations Committee and the Patient Safety Workgroup of the Teledermatology Committee of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as other committees for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Vij collaborates with industry partners to optimize patient care, physician and trainee education, and improve patient experience.
Dr. Vij was the first resident to be awarded “Teacher of the Year” in the Department of Dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic and was honored with the same award twice more as a member of the professional staff. He has also been recognized as a “Top Doctor” Cleveland, Ohio and as one of “America’s Top Dermatologists” for several years.
Outside of work, Dr. Vij loves to spend time with his wife, two daughters, and his dog. He enjoys exploring Austin and the world in search of new food and new experiences. Dr. Vij is excited to be back home in Texas!
