He grew up on a corn and soybean farm in northcentral Iowa and incorporates that humble background and sense of community into the care of his patients. His goal for patient care is simple: to utilize the latest and most proven nonsurgical and surgical methods to eliminate pain and restore desired function as quickly as possible. Along the way, Dr. Michalson and his team work diligently to ensure that patients and their families fully understand the diagnosis, treatment options, and recovery. Dr. Michalson is one of a small percentage of orthopedic surgeons who has dual fellowship training. With fellowship training in orthopedic trauma, Dr. Michalson treats new and old fractures of the upper and lower extremities as well as the pelvis and is the Medical Director of Orthopedic Trauma at The Medical Center of Aurora. Using aggressive and early surgical treatment when necessary and nonsurgical treatment when appropriate, Dr. Michalson approaches each patient and their injury carefully and uniquely to ensure the best possible treatment and outcome. Dr. Michalson is also fellowship trained in the surgical treatment of knee and hip arthritis. He specializes in outpatient knee and hip replacement, minimally invasive anterior approach hip replacement, robotic arm knee replacement, and partial knee replacement. He also performs revision knee and hip replacement surgery for patients with prior knee or hip replacement who are having pain or limitation of function. Using the most advanced surgical techniques and postoperative pain management strategies, his goal is for the quickest possible resolution of pain, resumption of work, return to driving, and re-engagement in normal life. Outside of medicine, Dr. Michalson enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. They love the Denver area for its outdoor activities, the many dining options, and its wonderful museums. He additionally enjoys golfing and fishing in his spare time.
