I told my dentist that I was having severe jaw pain especially when I ate or opened my mouth wide. He told me to visit Dr. Urbanek. When i received the splint I did not think that it would help. After the first 6 weeks I noticed 50% of my pain was gone. I thought that I would still just have the little bit of pain left. I've been a sufferer of TMJ for 15 years and counting. While I still experience some stiffness during the night, my symptoms have improved.

I came to Dr. Urbanek because I had been involved in a physical altercation which resulted in my orbital socket being fractured in multiple places and left the left side of my face, the tip of my nose, the left side of my mouth and jaw numb and tingling. Dr Urbanek explained he felt the reason for the numbness was pressure on a nerve under my eye and it would require a delicate surgery. I had the surgery the second week of June this year, all went well and I am pleased with the entire staff!

I was born with both of my jaws out of place; the top too far in, and the bottom too far out. As I got older, it got progressively worse as my bottom jaw continued to grow more outward. I was referred to Dr. Urbanek by my dentist. I have always had issues with my jaw popping and have tried various mouth guards with not much success. I am a terrible night time grinder. After 25 years of occasional jaw pain it started to become more frequent and more painful. At first the splint was hard to get used to and I was made fun of for the way it made me talk. I'm in my mid 50's and I've had significant jaw pain for 20+ years! I've used many different kinds of night guards, to prevent teeth grinding, which is the major cause of my jaw pain. None of them worked very well. I usually ended up grinding down the guard! I would wake with extreme headaches. My jaw popping and pain was so bad I resigned myself to the fact I would not be able to chew hard foods again. So I didn't. But when the ear ringing started, I couldn't ignore it any longer. My ENT doctor told me it was probably from my jaw problem, since he could hear & feel it popping. He sent me to Dr. Urbanek and I was fitted for my jaw splint. I was very skeptical of course. It is more expensive than other night guards but it is acrylic and I cannot grind through it! So I'm here 2 months later, after having worn it for 24 hours/day for 2 months, and I'm pain free! Went to ENT thinking i had an infected ear. He assured me there was nothing wrong with my ear and sent me to Dr. Erbanek. i was diagnosed with TMJ and had a piece formed for my mouth to alleviate the pain. i was told that this therapy would alleviate a lot of other conditions i was dealing with such as headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain and remove the tingling in my arm. i was skeptical but felt i had no choice but to give it a try. i followed instructions to the letter and am now at the end of the first two months and amazingly 90% of these conditions have cleared up. i would suggest that anyone who suspects they have this same condition wouild try this method of dealing with TMJ. it is so much better than having to have surgery to correct the problem. i am totally sold on this type of treatment. I consider myself fairly well educated and knowledgeable of common medical issues. I have always been healthy and take very few medications. Recently I have had an issue with my arms gong to sleep. My first visit was due to my teeth not coming together which was also causing some jaw pain. At the recommendation of my dentist I had visited another physician who treats TMJ. This physician described the various symptoms that may be caused by TMJ and prescribed treatment which included extensive use of appliances over an extended period of time.
