In the beginnning of this process i was very scared and nervous with the stuff that was getting ready to take place. The appointments before surgery was very informational and weren't bad at all. After all the appointments and steps to getting prepared for surgery. We then talked about the day of surgery and what all to expect after surgery and everything and i was nervous and scared about all of it but i knew they were gonna take great care of me. The day of surgery i was very very nervous not really scared but, i have to say i was a little scared but not much. After the surgery i was in a lot of pain which is gonna happen but, my medicine helped a lot. I bleed a lot it was scary but i was fine they took great care of me. The first night after the surgery i just slept and drunk some soup broth and it was pretty good and i drunk a milkshake also i think the hardest thing about having the surgery is not being able to eat real food for 3-6 weeks but it was 6 weeks for me . I have to say it was all worth it in the end and it really isn't bad as people make it out to seem like. I wouldn't go back and change my mind for anything because it was a amazing experience and im glad of how the outcome came to be. It was scary yes, and not being able to eat for 6 weeks sucked but, hey they made my mouth look amazing and i couldn't have asked for anyone better to have fixed it then Dr.Urbanek and his nurses.

I had developed many symptoms and was in a lot of pain and could barely open my mouth. It .only a few short months most of my symptoms had improved. No pain and could open my mouth. I hope to continue to improve.

I've had jaw issues since I was very young. My parents didn't really know what caused it and it never caused pain so I just lived with it for a while. I have experienced TMJ symptoms off and on for about 60 years. I can remember taking aspirin for my pain as a young girl. For years I have clenched at night. Even though I wore a traditional bite splint at night, I would wake up in the middle of the night with my teeth aching and my jaw sore. I was unaware that my chronic earaches were due to TMD for a long time. I endured several procedures and treatments throughout my life beginning in childhood. I also experienced shoulder and neck pain. I went to my ENT and was miserable and had stomach issues from taking the over the counter meds and antibiotics. Finally, I was diagnosed with TMD. My jaw locked closed about a week after having 2 teeth extracted. This affected my everyday life - I could not eat a sandwich without having to cut it into smaller pieces. The oral surgeon I was seeing at the time referred me to get an MRI and then referred me to Dr. Urbanek. At my initial consultation, Dr. Urbanek informed me that headaches and shoulder pain are also symptoms associated with TMJ. It started a few years ago. My jaw would pop when I would chew and, outside of being uncomfortable sounding, it was not that big a deal. However, in the past year, it started to get worse. I have had clicking/popping/tightness in my jaw for years along with neck/shoulder pain that I had no idea was even related to my jaw. My TMJ problems came to a head when the week before my wedding, I woke up and could hardly eat because my jaw hurt so badly. I continued to have intense pain eating for about a month - which made me miserable because I usually love eating! I was on very strong antiinflammatories but that didn't solve the problem. When I first came to Dr. Urbanek I was suffering with lots of pain, from jaw to neck, to fingers tingling, to my jaw locking. Dr Urbanek took the time to sit down and talk to me about all the trouble I was having. After spending the time and speaking to me about my options I opted to go with the TMJ splint. I wore the splint for a while and it was doing great but for some reason I was still experiencing lots of pain. Again Dr. Urbanek took the time to explain the next option for me. I then decided to go with surgery. In July of 2016 I had TMJ Arthroplasty meniscectomy with Fosa Implant. Not gonna lie this surgery was painful but now in the end I am 100% better. NO MORE PAIN!!!! Very good. I've been dealing with jaw locking and clacking issues for four years and have tried meeting with dentist and orthodontists but never got any luck getting rid of my symptoms. Referred by my grandma who had the same people, I went to Dr. Urbanek and got his splint made for me and my symptoms went away almost immediately and after a little over two months I don't have any problems with my tmj.

I had TMJ problems after taking a muscle relaxant for another health problem. I told my dentist about my headaches and fullness in my ears. He immediately sent me to see Dr. Urbanek. Dr. Urbanek fit me with a splint which corrected my symptoms within a few months.

My experience with Dr. Urbanek and his staff have been awesome. I had tinnitus for 2 years prior to receiving the splint and that was a LONG two years. I was initially seen by 4 different doctors at Vanderbilt Hospital, including a Tinnitus Specialist who claimed that the cause of my discomfort was from loud noise exposure after I told her it wasn't. I also saw an Ear Nose and Throat doctor who was the most candid and stated that he didn't really know how to treat me and suggested that I seek a holistic approach. Going the holistic route helped more than traditional western medicine but the relief was always temporary. I frequented deep tissue massages, acupuncture, cranio sacral therapy and even had my chiropractor try to find the solution. I had been dealing with symptoms of TMJ since I was about fifteen years old. My symptoms included constant face, jaw, and neck pain (the worst of the symptoms) along with many more, which were not as severe. My mother and sister have also been diagnosed with TMJ and have the same symptoms I do. My mother tried to help her symptoms by getting a night guard to wear so she wouldn't clinch or grind her teeth, but unfortunately she did not get one that actually fit her mouth and her symptoms became much worse even causing her to have to get a cortizone shot in her jaw to help the pain. I have experienced severe pain in my jaw, ears, and head due to my TMJ. For 6 years I've been prescribed inflammation medication, braces, and retainers but nothing has seemed to work. i have been to approximately 15 specialist over the last 5 years. I have actually been to 4 TMJ "specialist". All of the costs for these procedures were not covered by insurance.
